ROTARY CLUB OF DUBAI, U.A.E.

ANTI-SMOKING CAMPAIGN

Rotary Club of Dubai launches its
first major project in the UAE
.

The Club announces the introduction in the country of a unique machine considered as a ‘breakthrough’ in stop-smoking treatment

Rotary is an international organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.  It has recently opened its UAE chapter.  Today it launches, with the approval of the Department of Health, a major public service to the people of the UAE, particularly to its youth.

Rotary UAE has embarked on what can be considered as the most effective stop-smoking campaign and solution the region has ever known. Utilizing a revolutionary digital Stop-Smoking Machine, the treatment is based on the famous acupuncture principle.

What is revolutionary is the success rate of the treatment. Based on officially notarized international surveys in countries such as France, more than 70 percent of the treated people gave up smoking permanently.

According to global health statistics, nearly one third of the world’s population is addicted to nicotine. Smokers represent a sizeable percentage of the local population in the UAE also, especially among the youth. The adverse effects of nicotine addiction, such as terminal cancer, are generally seen only after 20, 30 or more years after the smoker starts his habit. Unless effective measures are taken to prevent smoking in the younger generation today, this habit can be highly detrimental in terms of lives lost and productivity loss in the coming years.

Finally, a reliable remedy

But the good news that is being announced today is that a treatment has finally arrived in the UAE that can prevent and eradicate the smoking menace to a very great extent.  It has no side effects and unlike acupuncture, involves no pain at all. The treatment takes only around 15 minutes, and surveys have shown that more than 42 percent of the treated people stopped smoking definitely after just ONE session! More than 70 percent stopped smoking definitely after 4/5 sessions!

Acting on the acupuncture points on the body (refer to enclosed charts), the laser beam affects the nerves which send a message to the brain, creating a permanent distaste for nicotine.  The method is so safe that is can be used even on pregnant women without any adverse effects.

Rotary UAE plans to set up centers at the major shopping malls and at selected private clinics in the UAE, where people can register for the treatment. Eventually the treatment clinics themselves may be installed in selected centers throughout the country.

The treatment is totally free for the first six months.

Ministry of Health support

Abstract from a letter from the UAE Ministry of Health (received by the owner of the machines), reveals the potential that this machine holds in rescuing smokers from the deadly habit and encouraging non smokers to stay clear of this insidious danger.

“We have inspected the machine presented to us…and it utilizes laser beam on the principle of acupuncture on various points on the body, but instead of using needles it uses laser beam on the face and ears to stimulate the same and assist in giving up smoking…

“As for the results they are excellent and encouraging as far the enclosed survey results are concerned.

“Based on these results as well as positive results from other countries we would consider this machine to be a break-through in stop smoking treatment.”

The machines are provided on ex-gratia basis by Mr. Abdullah Hussain, a Kuwaiti Businessman and philanthropic.

First of Rotary’s planned humanitarian projects

Smoke Prevention Campaign is the first of a series of major humanitarian projects the club has planned for the near future for the benefit of the local community. The next project would target the drug abuse problem. Other projects in planning include training for entrepreneurship for young nationals, and rendering service to global projects through Rotary International.

The launch of the stop-smoking campaign is considered as a major milestone in the nation’s long term plan for the welfare and health of its most precious asset - its people.

Laser Treatment

The concept is based on the ‘Acupuncture’ principle, utilizing laser pulses introduced to particular points on the face and ears, thus simulating the effect of acupuncture needles but without the pain caused by the needles and with better control of the pulse intensity which is electronically adjusted and controlled by the trained doctor.

The controlled laser pulses are aimed at certain nerve points to adversely simulate the nicotine flavour sense of these points. The controlled pulses merely vibrate these points and thus have no side effects.

For people with nicotine addiction (smokers), undergoing a treatment session of about 15 minutes by a trained paramedic utilizing the machine, would result in the following:

*  Reduced appetite for smoking immediately after the treatment session or within 48 hours of the session.

*  Loss of flavour of the cigarette

*  Control of the reaction for willingness to smoke

* Positive direct and indirect effects on the nerves to reduce frustration and   aptitude to smoke.

*  Affects reliance on nicotine.

Besides the above, the treatment also controls the person’s appetite for food, as a result of giving up smoking. Thus this would not lead to aggressive eating, and henceforth would not cause weight gain as a result of giving up smoking.

Laser Treatment Versus Other Treatments
used for prevention of Smoking

Other treatments or medicines may be summarized as follows:

Acupuncture
Mesotherapy
Homeopathy
Hynosis
Nico-Patches
Nico-Chewing Gum

It has been medically known for a long time the ineffectiveness of most of the above methods and medicines in the treatment of nicotine addiction.

Acupuncture treatments, however, are effective to a certain extent but require the patient to undergo numerous painful sessions by a specialized doctor.

As for the Nico-Patches and Nico-Chewing Gum, these rely mainly on the flavour of the nicotine non-addictive substitute and have a very limited and temporary effect on the patient, besides the possible side effects that may be caused to heart problem sufferers.

Expectations

Statistics show more than 30 percent of the world’s population are addicted to nicotine and each addict is expected to attempt a treatment for giving up smoking at least once.

With the proven and legally documented survey results for the machine showing a success rate of more than 70 percent, along with appropriate advertisements, this should leave no doubt about the expected number of people seeking such treatment, and hence its overall success.

Conclusion

A laser treatment machine that has a very high and proven success rate in stopping smoking, controlling weight, re-adjusting/balancing the appetite and consequently fighting blood pressure without any side effects, should generate a high public demand.
